WhatsApp response to Gumtree Ad is it a scam?
How do you know you are being scammed on gumtree?The most common way is they contact you via whatsapp? WhatsApp don't have filters on like gumtree messaging does.
Secondly they will say something like "Is this ad/item still for sale" The reason why this is a red flag is simple, if you are asking if something is for sale you would normally ask "are the boots still for sale". Rather than this item.
They make their messages generic simply so they can send massess of messages per day and hope one hits.
You will be directed to a page where you have to put in your credit card details to receive money even though you haven't said you would send them the goods. Please note this is a scam and you will get your bank account drained.
They are clever as they have a page that looks like gumtree set up and it has your item details already showing. But that is an easy thing to do. If you think it may be genuine, login to your gumtree account seperately. It will be there if it is genuine.
Stay safe and stop giving people your card details just to get a few pounds.
